At the Carole Robertson Center for Learning, workers tried to share information about the census even before the center received state funding. Eventually, the nonprofit organization focused on child development programs on Chicago’s West Side wants to have laptops or tablets available to parents who haven’t filled out the census. They’ve also thought of doing pledge cards with the parents. During a parent night in December, parents and children munched on pizza and filled out a worksheet to reflect on what makes up their community.
